Australian co MtM looks to set up gear-box unit in India
The Hindu Business Line: July 06, 2010

New Delhi: Australian auto component firm MtM said on Tuesday that it is exploring the possibility of setting up a manufacturing facility in India to meet the growing demand for automatic transmissions.

The company recently started supplying automatic gear boxes for the Mahindra Scorpio SUVs to be exported to the US.

“The US is pre-dominantly an automatic transmissions' market and MtM's track record in supplying automatic gear box shifters to Australian vehicles exported to USA and understanding of the quality and technical requirements met Mahindra & Mahindra's criteria in developing the automatic gear box shifters for Scorpio,” the company said.

MtM expects to supply 10,000 automatic gear box shifters a year to Mahindra & Mahindra. MtM's diverse product portfolio includes automatic and manual gear shifters, door checks, door handles, park brakes and other components such as storage boxes, hood latches, interior lights and fuel and boot release.

Besides Mahindra, the company also supplies to automakers such as General Motors, Ford Australia, Toyota Australia and Shanghai General Motors (China).
