Haryana to invest Rs 1,305 cr to strengthen power network

New Delhi/ Chandigarh: The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has proposed to invest Rs 1,305 crore to strengthen power transmission and distribution system in its area during the financial year 2010-11.

DHBVN Managing Director Anurag Agarwal said here today that a major stress had been given to create High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS) on rural, domestic, urban and rural agriculture feeders by earmarking Rs 398 crore. Under this system of international standard, larger number of distribution transformers are used and each consumer is connected with transformer through independent service cable. In villages, ring mains of 11 KV level are erected under this system.

“Strengthening of metering system has been given thrust by making a provision of Rs 143 crore. Under this major plan, all the 200,000 defective meters would be replaced with new electronic meters at a cost of Rs 93 crore, about 70,000 distribution transformers will be provided with meters at a cost of Rs 25 crore and Rs 25 crore will be spent on procurement of meters for new consumers,” he added.

Agarwal said that the Nigam planned to construct 25 new substations of 33 KV level and augment capacity of 15 existing substations of 33 KV level at a cost of Rs 98 crore to further strengthen the power transmission and distribution system. Over 100 overloaded feeders of 11 KV level will be divided into feeders of proper load and length and their complete system will be renovated.

In addition, capacitor banks of a capacity of 120 m v a r. will be installed at different new and existing substations at a cost of Rs five crore to improve power factor and voltage level. To strengthen and augment capacity of the distribution system and to erect additional lines, the DHBVN has earmarked Rs 66 crore to procure additional distribution transformers and high tension cable.

Under Part A of the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reform Programme (RAPDRP) of the Government of India, projects of Rs 90.47 crore have already been sanctioned, out of which Rs 68 crore will be spent during the financial year 2010-11. Under this prestigious programme, the Nigam plans consumer indexing, GIS and asset mapping, metering of feeders and distribution transformers, automatic data logging, feeder segregation, ring fencing, information technology applications, establishment of base line data system, etc.

Under Part B of the RAPDRP, detailed project reports are being prepared for renovation of distribution system in 16 towns in the area of DHBVN at a cost of Rs 600 crore, of which an amount of Rs 292 crore is planned to be spent during the financial year 2010-11. While a scheme worth Rs 45 crore for renovation of distribution system in the non RAPDRP area shall also be prepared, of which Rs 10 crore shall be spent during this financial year.
